Over the last few weeks, several groups of MTA seniors have been traveling to Riverdale to volunteer at the Hebrew Home nursing facility. Each group was initially given a tour of the home and its Derfner Judaica Museum, containing a large collection of art—much of which has been created by the home’s own residents.
During each subsequent visit, students were divided into groups and everyone sat down with small groups of residents throughout the home, holding friendly and meaningful discussions. Some students even sang for the grateful members of the home. The residents were happy to be given the opportunity to converse and connect with the MTA students.
After eating wonderful meals in their hosts’ homes, everyone enjoyed a ruach-filled oneg together at the home of TABC music and media teacher, Shim Craimer. On Shabbat day, the group came together for lunch, after which the talmidim were engaged in shiurim from their rebbeim. Linden, a driver for City Harvest, came to pick up the donations. He thanked the children for the amazing job they did and explained to the children how the food is distributed through the food pantry and to soup kitchens. He took the children down to his truck to show them all the boxes of food he had already collected. He said it was a wonderful time and the children were very proud.
