On Sunday, April 30, MVP Basketball hosted its ninth annual Girls All Star Day at SAR High School in Riverdale. The daylong program featured over 100 players from yeshivas from all leagues throughout the New York and New Jersey metro area, including Bergen County, as selected by their respective coaches.  There were four all star games on this fun filled day— sixth, seventh and eighth grades, high school junior varsity and high school varsity. Each of the all stars received an MVP All Star Day 2017 T-Shirt. The YMSSA middle school girls hockey championship game was just as exciting as anticipated. In front of a packed crowd, this emotional roller coaster of a game saw Yavneh prevail over WDS by the close score of 5-3.

Right off the opening faceoff, WDS was relentless at the half court line, making it challenging for Yavneh to get any sustained pressure and clear their defensive zone. However, Yavneh soon rose to the challenge. As pressure built on WDS, their penalty gave Yavneh the power play, resulting in two goals.

The Jewish Link of New Jersey and Gotham Burger would like to recognize SAR seniors Sophie Hecht and Rebecca Hyman as this week’s co-sportstars of the week. The dynamic duo is coming off of a terrific championship season.
