(Courtesy of Young Israel of Scarsdale) The Young Israel of Scarsdale is pleased to welcome its new youth directors, Darren and Nechama May. Darren grew up in Calabasas, California, graduating from Calabasas High School. Following high school he attended Nesivos Ahron, a yeshiva in Israel, then went on to Yeshiva University, where he graduated summa cum laude. He is currently enrolled in YU’s Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary as he pursues semicha. Darren’s hobbies include tennis, trumpet playing, tutoring Judaic studies and cooking.
Nechama is a native New Yorker who attended Torah Academy for Girls in Far Rockaway from first through 12th grade. She went on to spend a year at Ateres Seminary in Ramot before attending Queens College, where she just earned a degree in dietetics and nutrition science. She will be attending New York Presbyterian’s Columbia and Cornell medical schools this year to continue her education in dietetics. In addition to Nechama’s passion for teaching, she is also a burgeoning food Instagrammer (nechama_may).
Darren says, “We are super excited to be the new youth directors in YIS. A youth program should first and foremost be fun, but must also aid in instilling Jewish knowledge and values within the next generation.” Adds Nechama, “That is what we are trying to achieve as youth leaders in Scarsdale.”
