Dr. Jodi Magness

Award-winning archaeologist and professor of early Judaism Dr. Jodi Magness will present “More Than Just Mosaics: The Ancient Synagogue at Huqoq in Israel’s Galilee—an Update on the Last Two Years” on Wednesday, February 20, at 8 p.m. at Young Israel of New Rochelle. Currently serving as president of the Archaeological Institute of America (AIA), Dr. Magness holds a senior endowed chair in the department of religious studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She received a B.A. from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and a Ph.D. in classical archaeology from the University of Pennsylvania, and was also a Mellon post-doctoral fellow at the Center for Old World Archaeology and Art at Brown University. A participant in 20 excavations in Israel and Greece, Dr. Magness is a prolific author and editor whose next book, “Masada: From Jewish Revolt to Modern Myth,” is scheduled for publication this year.
