(Courtesy of Team Peri) Join Team Peri, of Team Lifeline, as they host a celebrity bowling tournament to benefit Chai Lifeline and donor drive to register potential bone marrow donors to benefit patients suffering from blood cancer who are in need of a lifesaving transplant.
Peri Finkelstein, a current freshman at Adelphi University, Garden City, New York, has a rare form of muscular dystrophy and has been on a ventilator 24/7 since the age of 2 years old. Team Peri has been running with Team Lifeline for the past 10 years, and it is Peri’s goal to make this world a better place “one step at a time.” Team Lifeline is an endurance training program that brings runners, like Team Peri, from all over the world to destination races, raising funds and awareness for Chai Lifeline. Chai Lifeline’s mission is to bring joy to children with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses. Chai Lifeline’s multitude of programs were created to alleviate the emotional, social and financial challenges facing families living with pediatric illness. Chai Lifeline provides fun and support to these children, their parents and their siblings. Their well-known summer camps, Camp Simcha and Camp Simcha Special, provide a two-week getaway where sick children can feel like kids, while receiving the medical care and treatment they need.
Team Lifeline participates in the FitBit Miami Marathon/Half Marathon, NYC Marathon, TCS NYC Marathon and the Rock ‘n’ Roll Las Vegas Marathon/Half Marathon/10K. Each year Team Lifeline raises significant funds for Chai Lifeline’s children.
Team Peri is hosting this Gift of Life Bowling Event to fundraise for Chai Lifeline, and there will be great raffle prizes as well as an exciting online Charity Buzz auction in conjunction with the event.
The drive, held on behalf of Gift of Life Marrow Registry, and bowling tournament will be on Sunday, November 18, at Woodmere Lanes, 948 Broadway, Woodmere, New York, from 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Celebrities scheduled to appear include SNY sports analyst and former N.Y. Mets pitcher Nelson Figueroa and HQ Trivia host Scott Rogowsky.
Everyone is encouraged to participate in the marrow donor drive. It’s fast and painless. If you are between the ages of 18 and 45 and in general good health, you are eligible to be screened and join the worldwide registry for patients in need. A simple swab from the inside of your cheek is all it takes to determine if you are a match.
