Throughout the year, second grade students at Westchester Torah Academy have been engaged in learning all aspects of different literary genres. They had the opportunity to investigate how a book is created and its individual parts: title page, information page, endpapers and dedication. They learned about different genres, worked together to write a rubric for each and finally, chose a genre they would like to write about.
As all authors do in this process, each student came up with an idea for a story. Then they wrote, edited, revised and ultimately published his/her own original book. At their culminating event, the second graders and their parents were treated to a wonderful dinner prepared by the students, and parents enjoyed listening to their children’s original stories.
