Yom Ha’atzmaut, Israel’s Independence Day, was an incredible day of celebration at Westchester Torah Academy. The school-wide morning tekes began as students watched the State of Israel’s ceremony from the previous evening—raising their flags to full mast as just as they did in Israel. Students watched as the prime minister gave his inspiring message, and as members of Tzahal joined in a synchronized flag marching, Daglanut. This tekes brought a sense of achdut with Am Yisrael that set the tone for the entire day ahead. After davening Hallel with a live stream of the Kotel, students enjoyed a parade outdoors as they sang, danced and waved their flags in excitement. Each class experienced an Israeli Invention Shuk, where they learned about the amazing inventions Israel has contributed to the world. The stations, such as Tzahal, Waze and Israeli games, helped the children deepen their appreciation for our homeland in an interactive and fun way.
