Do you need some recommendations for summer reading? The sixth and seventh grade students are the ones to ask! This week, students completed and shared a month-long independent fiction project which took the shape of “cereal boxes” that brought literature to life! Each student read a novel from among the different genres of fiction—science fiction, fantasy, historical fiction, dystopian and realistic fiction. Then, they customized a cereal box that could adequately share the essence of the novel with others. Each box reveals the key elements of a novel, modeling the skills they have learned all year in ELA class. One side holds a summary; another side holds the setting; a third side interprets one powerful quote from the text and the final side explains the characterization of the main character. If you need a summer reading suggestion, come visit Room 210 in the castle to browse a beautiful array of options!
