The fifth grade welcomed author Faye Silton to their class after reading her novel, “Of Heroes, Hooks, and Heirlooms.” The students had many questions that were answered by the author, including, “What inspired her to write the book?” “How long did it take her to write it?” “Is the story based on real people or real experiences?” Silton then posed questions to the students: “What makes someone a hero?” “How can doing just one nice thing a day for someone else lead to that person becoming a hero?” Since the main character in the book becomes a hero in part through crocheting, Silton gave each child the chance to experience this creative skill. Each student received a finger crochet packet, along with instructions. What a wonderful experience for all!
