Carmel Academy’s fifth graders just completed a unit exploring the rich history of ancient Greece. Dressed in togas, the students marked the culmination of the unit with a Greek Symposium, in which students shared their learning and creativity. Topics ranged from the legal system to medicine, theater and sports. Working in small groups, the students became experts in their subjects and created video skits exploring their topics. Guests watched the videos and then answered game-show style questions. Students sang Ocho Kandelikas, and ended the symposium with the Greek dance, the Miserlou. On display were beautiful Greek vases, created in art class, and original myths authored by each student.
