As the weather gets warmer, Westchester Summer Day is gearing up for summer and for its new rink and floor hockey program. In support of this new program, WSD is constructing a brand new outdoor hockey rink that will be up and running for Summer 2016. Children will be learning and playing the game of floor hockey through hands-on instruction, drills, scrimmage games, free play and organized tournaments.
Westchester Summer Day is excited to welcome Howie Falkenstein as the director of the WSD hockey program. Howie has been coaching youth floor hockey since 2003. He is the owner and director of the SAR Floor Hockey League, the head coach of the SAR high school varsity boys and girls hockey teams and runs the Ramaz Hockey Club. For Howie, who has previously started a number of school hockey programs, “Each time I start a new program I am energized by the enthusiasm the kids show for the sport. I am so excited to be joining the Westchester Summer Day community; the support for the program has already been overwhelming. I am especially excited that the kids will be able to play hockey in a rink, which will be newly constructed for this upcoming summer session.” The Pro-Wall Rink System which will measure 54 feet 8 inches by 104 feet 8 inches. is specifically designed for floor hockey and roller hockey and will complement the already extensive fields and courts at Westchester Summer Day. “Westchester Summer Day is constantly looking for ways to bring new and innovative programming for the summer and we look forward to the addition of the hockey rink and program for 2016,” commented Rachel Goldman, Executive Director of Westchester Summer Day.
